Last weekend, we took julia and mikhail to pick strawberries and to the strawberry festival at the Trax farm which was an hour away from our house. This is our first time picking strawberries....and maybe our last time Why? It was very difficult because you have to be on you knees all the time. Yikes! Not fun at all..well that is not quiet true. Julia had fun eating the strawberries and that is all that matters. Heck, we might even go there again just for the fun of it!
| Quote: | kak mimi- ha'ah memang luas yang amat! nasib baik tempat parking kete kat sebelah tempat kitaorng pick the strawberries..kalau tak sure tak larat punya
sasha- picking strawberries ni memang melenguhkan lutut..si julia memang lah enjoy habis sebab dia dapat makan the strawberries right there and then jugak..but eventhough memenatkan you should at least do it once in a lifetime
rina- my picture? tak adeler...I ni yang jadi tukang jurugambar aje..nantilah ok |
| Quote: | Ame- it was sad when sampai Msia jer, my family and I were greeted with rude Msians. Tambah lagi when I was traveling with Julila and she saw how rude people were...buat malu jer. I really wanted her to be proud of her malaysian heritage but her first experience bila sampai Msia jer were these rude people everywhere. Menyampah betul!!You would expect they would treat family traveling with kids with kindness but NO...there I was pushing julia in a stroller and these people were passing me, almost knocking me over and they were giving me this look like I was making their life miserable. WHAT?!!!
Anyway, enough about bad experiences in Msia. Well, we were thinking of going for the Art Fest..but then we decided not too...we opted for the beach instead! |

While waiting for nona to come and pick julia up to go to story hour at the library, she practiced her "horse riding" skills. From her outfit, the story hour today is about the cowboys! Yee haaa!!

This is what we had for dinner yesterday!
|
|
Somehow yesterday I was craving for Yut Sun's Chicken Chop. (kak mimi tak rindu ke?) But what to do, I am so far away from Taiping and from my parents' (my dad can cook great chicken chop..ask epit, he'll attest to it) so nak tak nak kenalah masak sediri. It was not as great as Yut Sun's or my dad's but heck , it was not bad. Julia devoured her share of the chicken chop. Since I did not have tomatoes, I used brussel sprouts and made baked baby potatoes and fresh sweet peas (our family's favorite)as sides.
| Quote: | here is the recipe : try at your own risk ok?
what you need:
2 chicken breasts (I usually use chicken breast, dont like dark meat)
flour
salt/ pepper
chicken kuib for taste - for the gravy
1 egg
1 onion (bawang besar) -for the gravy
olive oil (minyak lain pun boleh kot but I've always used oo)
the method:
1) butterfly the chicken breasts (butterfly: cut/slice the chicken breast into one big piece but jangan sampai putus)
then, using meat pounder, pound the chicken so it gets soft (kalau tak der meat pounder, just use the back of a knife or lesung batu pun tak per) that is the secret to make it taste like at yut sun's
2) rub in salt and pepper
3) celup the chicken into the egg
4) celup the chicken into the flour (add salt and pepper into the flour first)
5)fry the chicken in the pan with 2-3 tablespoon of olive oil (i dont fry it like we do in Msia dengan banyak
minyak) it'll take about 4 minutes on each side for the chicken to be cooked. Fry the rest of the chicken , adding enough olive oil from time to time if needed and set them aside.
Now, how to make the gravy:
1) in a container mix 4tbs of flour with water, it should be a consistency of a roti jala/ pancake
2) using the same pan so we can get the flavor and color from the oil left from frying the chicken, add 2 - 3tbs of olive oil, use low heat , add in a few tbs (about 4 maybe) of water and mix it using a whisk, making sure you get all of the crumbs left in the pan mix with the water. once that is done you can pour the flour mixture in bit by bit, selang seli with water (still at the same time whisking the gravy all the time to avoid the gravy from being lumpy.
3) add in the chicken kuib, terpulang banyak mana nak, just make sure jgn letak banyak2 in the begining
sebab the gravy will thickened, nanti masin pulak
4) once u get the consistency that u want, add the onion, lower the heat. once the onon is cooked to ur liking, the gravy is done. u can add peas to the gravy before u turn off the stove if u like.
5) pour the gravy on top of the chicken, and we are done.u can basically eat the cchop with anything that u like: corn, fries, brussel sprout, tomatoes, anything
I did mine with baked potatoes ( toss them in olive oil, salt n pepper n any spices that u like, put them in foil and baked them in the oven at a high temp. until cooked
brussel sprout : cut the end (the hard part) and toss away the outer layers and cooked them in the pan with 2-3 tbs of olive oil and sprinkle salt n pepper to taste n basically cook it for about 10-15 minutes or until done ( i like mine crunchy n half cooked)
good luck!

Vegetable garden.
|
|
Christopher decided to have a vegetable garden this year. So, Gapu and Nona came to help him set up his garden. Hopefully this year we will be able to get fresh vegetables from our backyard. They planted onion, banana papers , carrots, swiss chars, spinach, dill, tomatoes, fennels, blueberries, blackberries and tons of peas.
I'll put up more pictures once they are growing.

Afnan, didi auni, julia n nurul, sarah n mastura
The weather turned out great! I was afraid it was going to rain but instead it was nice and sunny all day long.
We invited all of our Msian friend to celebrate juju's birthday this year. The kids played very well together and julia had a blast. Both of us had fun too catching up with everyone. Gapu and Nona finally get to meet with all of the Msian families here.
Julia's birthday cake this year is Diego. Thanks to daddy, she insisted on having Diego cake instead of Dora. This four year old has a mind of her own!!!
| Quote: | | kak mimi - Diego and Dora are the new kids favorite TV shows. Dora is the Explorer and Diego is the Animal Rescuer, they are cousins who are on various adventure to save/ help animals and people. They are Spanish and from time to time, they will teach Spanish words for kids to learn. yang lain tu yani pun tak tahuler. |

May 23 2008- Julia is four!!!
|
|
Macam tak caye jer that our lovely daughter is now four years old!! Cepat nyer masa berlalu. She has grown into a well mannered young girl who is very talkative and love to dance and sing. She is very good at remembering things and she is now into playing games on the computer (like father like daughter) and she loves to pretend to be a princess. Her very favorite thing to do right now is to play with her dress up clothes! And she loves to go for a hike and learn about the nature. Thanks to her dad and gapu she has a good knowledge about plants and animals. She always amazes me when she would point out the names of the plants that we would see on our hikes. As parents, we are both so grateful to be blessed with such a wonderful girl and hopefully our Mikhail will be as wonderful as her sister.Amin. hehehe siapa lagi nak puji kalau mak nyer tak puji, yer tak?
Ok, now let's talk about her birthday this year. Like previous year, we would celebrate her actual birthday just with the family (mummy, daddy, gapu, nano and this year with boy boy). then, we would invite some family friends over to her small birthday party during the weekend. For her birthday this year, we invited all of our Msian friends over.
This year mummy decided to buy her cake instead of making it herself. Tak larat ler with a baby to take care (alasan, alasan..) We bought the main dishes ( rice with beef curry) from Salim's and to give mummy credit, she made acar nenas aka jelatah, karipap, cekodok pisang and nona made corn and bean salad. And mummy is so upset with herself coz she did not take any pictures of the food
Even though it was a small birthday party, Julia had a wonderful time!
